For anglers, the announcement that the tide has gone slack is about as ominous as discovering that you left your bait back at the dock.
The tide goes slack (stops moving) four times a day round these parts twice at the end of the flood tide (incoming) and twice at the finish of the ebb tide (outgoing).

Southwest Florida anglers continue to find productive fishing and catching on most all fishing fronts. Redfish have been found in the inland waters, outer shore, passes and on the fish havens. Usually the larger reds will be found from the passes out but there has been big ones caught inland. Full story »
Low levels of red tide present along Marco's beaches

Red tide is present at Marco Island's South Beach according to Collier County Pollution Control and Prevention announcement. Very low levels of the bacteria indicate respiratory irritation is possible, but fish kills are unlikely. Full story »

Children of migrant farmworkers spent Saturday learning the techniques and rules of responsible fishing. The 47 children from Immokalee participated in a fishing clinic hosted at Port of the Islands Marina as part of National Wildlife Refuge Week. For days before the clinic, the children eagerly waited for the opportunity to go on the trip. Full story »

That bilge time has taught me a little about everything that is or makes a boat a boat. That experience with a lot of schooling and reading has helped my career to no end.
