The Greater Marco Family YMCA has some exciting programs coming up for the second half of October and also some free classes for you.
Mark your calendar for Tuesday for a free Karate Kids class .This class is for children ages 7 to 13. The free class will be held from 3:30 to 4: 30 p.m.
Also a free Generational Karate class will be offered on Thursday from 5:50 to 6:30 p.m. This class is for ages 7 to adult.
I encourage the whole family to sign up and attend this class. No uniform required. Just wear shorts or sweatpants and a T-shirt. If you like the classes then sign up for the monthly sessions. Classes meet at the same time as the free sessions.
The Greater Marco YMCA Tennis Championships are scheduled for Friday through Sunday at the Y. Come on out and root for your favorites. Play is scheduled for this morning at 8 a.m. and will last until 8 p.m.
This Sunday is Oktoberfest at the Esplanade. All the fun and excitement starts at 11 a.m. and runs until 5 p.m. Northern Sounds from Pittsburgh, Pa. will be the featured entertainment from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Other music and announcements will be provided by me!
There will be 50/50 raffles and great food provided by CJ’s on the Bay, Guy Harvey’s, Mozart’s and Tara Steakhouse. Kids can play in the children’s area. Admission is $5 for adults and kids under 12 are free! Stop by the stage and say hi.
The Y and the Kiwanis Club are working together to sponsor K- Kids and Builders Club this fall and winter. This is a great opportunity to serve the community and develop basic leadership potential. Members must be entering the third grade through eight grades. The clubs will meet starting Nov. 13 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Membership for the year is $30 and dues are $1 per meeting. Meetings will be held in portable “C.” Contact is Gina Sisbarro and you can contact her at 394-3144 ext. 227.
The last swim lesson classes with Dottie are scheduled from Monday through Nov. 6. Sign ups continue through Sunday.
Tickets are now available for the Y fundraising events. Please check the YMCA calendar on Wednesday in the Eagle for more details.
The National Sports Gala will be held at the Hilton Marco Island Beach Resort on Nov. 15. Call Leslie Drake for ticket information at 394-3144 ext. 205.
The 14th annual Greater Marco Family YMCA Golf Tournament is scheduled for Dec. 13 at the Cedar Hammock Golf Course. Play for $110 and /or be a hole sponsor for $100. Call Jean Shaw at 248-4366 or Dick Shanahan at 860- 4354 for more information.
