SOME EXAMPLES OF THE ARTISTS IN THE EXHIBITION

NAA volunteers Liz and Dick Eflin, who are both artists, each submitted a painting for the exhibition. Dick Eflin’s work is a delicately rendered landscape in watercolor, and Liz Eflin’s is an exuberant mixed media collage.

Jim Chamberlain, a photographer instructor at the art center, travels the world and specializes in European landscapes. Printing with acrylic pigment inks and non-traditional materials such as canvas, watercolor paper and sheet metal, he adds unique characteristics, key to making his landscapes come alive with a sense of color and design. Chamberlain has given programs in Korea, New Zealand, England, Ireland, Canada and all across the United States to speak about digital imaging, Photoshop and Giclée printing. His third hardbound book, Lifescapes, was just published. It is a collection of European landscape Photographs. Chamberlain has won numerous Kodak Gallery and Fuji Masterpiece awards.

H. Ted Lay had a career as a graphic artist in the advertising and consultant design fields prior to his ongoing adventures as a painter. Observing the everyday activities of people at the beach or on the street is an endless resource of subject matter for his figure and portrait work. Initially attracted to the traditional style of figure and portrait painting in oil, Lay’s work has evolved to include tongue-in-cheek comment on today’s lifestyle, politics and celebrities. As a lifelong observer of pop-art, contemporary impressionists and abstract painters of the ‘60s, he is currently experimenting with non-traditional figure painting techniques and materials.

A landscape architect, Steven Todd Beyer is a senior associate at WilsonMiller. Drawing since childhood, he has recently begun to paint with oil en plein air. He is inspired by the natural world, as seen when scuba diving along the Greek Islands, hiking through the Swiss Alps, honeymooning in Paris, designing resorts throughout the Caribbean, skydiving over the Florida Keys, touring Tuscany, and other travels.
