It is time for Oktoberfest! Held Oct. 26 at the beautiful Esplanade, located on North Collier Blvd, the fundraiser for the Y will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for everyone to enjoy.

I’ll be the host and emcee for the event and a great polka band from Pittsburgh, Penn., called “Northern Sounds,” will be the main act.

German food from CJ’s on the Bay, Mozart’s, Guy Harvey’s and Tara Steakhouse will be available for purchase. A kids play area will also be available. Kids under 12 are free and the entrance fee for everyone else is $5.

Adult volunteers are needed to work the festival. Stop by the customer service desk and sign up today.

Another popular fundraising event is the 50/50 Christmas Raffle where you could win up to $10,000! Wouldn’t that be great for holiday shopping? Tickets are $50 each or three for $100. The drawing will be held Dec. 6 at the Christmas tree lighting event on Marco Island. Tickets are on sale at the customer service desk.

The Greater Marco YMCA started cycling classes this week and so far the program is very popular with enthusiasts. Cost for a class is only $10 and members can draft this program for only $30 a month for unlimited class attendance. You must register for this program to attend. The room will open 10 minutes prior to the start of the class.

The Greater Marco Family YMCA has a great lineup of programs in October and you can check the specifics on the weekly YMCA calendar published Wednesdays in the Eagle.

Well, there you have it! October at the Y will be the best month yet for 2008.

Come on out to the Y and take a tour. We have very reasonable prices and we open at 5 a.m., Monday through Friday.

Hope to see you at the Y.
