Eye On The Y: The holidays are here

Cool air and lots of cool activities

Dean Martin, a fellow Ohio resident, had a hit record with a song called ”Baby, It’s Cold Outside.”

I think we all were unknowingly quoting from the lyrics this week as the weather chilled us all to the bone. This was not a time to be outdoors especially in the early morning hours.

I am amazed at those hardy souls who get up out of their warm, cozy, beds and head over to the Y to work out in the fitness center, take a cycle class and for the really bold, a dip in the pool in the a.m. aquatics class. The water temp is kept at a steamy 84 degrees; the pool is covered when the temp dips below 50. The hard part is the getting in and out of the pool. Brrr!

The month of November is slipping by us like a speeding freight train in the night. The holidays will be upon us starting next week and the Greater Marco Family Y has activities planned just for you.

The Y will be offering Camp Days Nov. 26 and 28. Join the Y for a fun packed day. Camp hours will be from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Camp will be held at the ASPIRE Clubhouse and campers are to bring a bag lunch, sunscreen, bathing suit, towel and sneakers. For our weekly participants the cost will only be $10 a day.

Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27 the Y will be closed. Enjoy the day! Signups continue for the following programs: gymnastics, cheerleading, creative dance, fun and fundamentals basketball.

Christmas Club raffle tickets are on sale at the customer service desk. Tickets are $50 each or 3 for $100. The drawing will be held at the Christmas tree lighting ceremony Dec. 6 at Veterans Community Park.

Attention, all golfers! Have you signed up yet for the 14th Annual Greater Marco YMCA Golf Tournament? Tee off is scheduled for Dec. 13 at Cedar Hammock. Players can register at the front desk.
