The Lely High volleyball team finished with a 6-16 mark.
However, Coach Daniel Selvey speaks of the seniors that made the season special. Here are his remarks.
I will greatly miss the play of each of our seniors. They each grew to hold a special place in my heart this season. I believe they taught me more about myself, coaching, and life than I was able to teach them, and that makes this season successful in my eyes.
Greta Schneider-Herr, was a great example to me and the entire team of what it truly means to have a desire to improve.
Dallan Diaz was incredible in just her second season ever playing the sport.
She had some digs that just left me and other coaches, such as Jess Drevitch of Palmetto Ridge, amazed.
Gabby Lopez has been very consistent over the last two seasons as our starting libero. On top of that, she progressed tremendously over the final two weeks of the season to the point of being one of the main vocal leaders on a team filled with seniors.
Chevy Criscouli is so fun to coach because she just cares so much. She truly loves the sport of volleyball.
Needless to say, Victoria Howard was a daunting presence on the court. She ranked in the top 15 of four different statistical categories of all the players in the Naples/Fort Myers area. She finished second in blocking, fifth in digs, 10th in kills per game, and 15th in aces per game. Her athleticism in irreplaceable.
Kiley Stoll also showed tremendous improvement over a season where she was put in a new position after playing the same one for three previous years. She was our biggest vocal leader on the court, and often the key factor in our successes.
I can’t say enough about Amy Russetto. Not only did she finish sixth in the area for assists per game, but the intangible leadership she brought to the team was outstanding. She was the glue that held us all together, including me as the coach. She is a special player that has never received the credit she deserves.
